User profiles are all about clarity and ease of navigation. When you're going through someone's profile, you want to find what you're looking for without much fuss. However, there's still some need for a bit of an aesthetic flair, otherwise they would be plain boring. For a little drama I played around with gradients and overlays. Also, my layout is mostly visual with minimal text which is how I envision all user profiles will more or less look in the future.
